Engineering Design Services: CAD Solid Modeling, 2D drafting, FEA, CFD and Building Services

Engineers Base Consultants provides different types of engineering design services, including but not limited to CAD drafting, Solid modeling using CAD software, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Building services.

1.   CAD Drafting (Creation of 2D Drawings)

This involves creation of 2D working drawings in the fields of mechanical, electrical and civil engineering. Whether you have a rough layout or a product that you want to manufacture, we can help you to create engineering drawings that suits your needs. All you need is to provide us with all the details of your project and give us time to complete it. Your project will be assigned to an experienced draughts man who will work on every detail of your engineering project to produce high quality 2D drawings. Some of the materials that you can send to guide the draughts man in charge of your project include:

  • Pictures of the product to be used to prepare the 2D working drawings

  • Scanned copies of blueprint drawings

  • Hand sketches showing the details of the required 2D engineering drawing

  • Three dimensional solid models produced using SolidWorks, Inventor and CATIA

  • Two Dimensional  CAD drawings that you want to be modified

  • Any other important material not specified

Our engineers will check through all the drawings to ensure that everything has been done correctly, and that there are no omissions. Please note that due to high volumes of work that we receive every day, you need to send us a request first so that we tell you whether your project will be registered with us. If your project is urgent and the workload does not allow us to work on it, we will advise you on what to do.

Order Requirements for 2D CAD Drafting

When placing an order with us, you may be requested to:

  • Specify the 2D CAD software you prefer to be used (we use Inventor and AutoCAD)

  • Give a brief description of your project

  • Specify the deadline

  • The required drawing size (A0, A1, A2, A3, etc)

If you would want to place an order with us,  send your order Request now.

2.   CAD Solid & Surface Modeling

We are experts in Solid modeling using various CAD software tools including SolidWorks, CATIA and Autodesk Inventor. Our experience in solid and surface modeling will be useful in ensuring that all your design needs are addressed satisfactorily.

(a) What are solid and surface models?

Solid models are conceptual designs presented in 3D form and in which all space points within the surface boundaries have been defined. On the other hand, surface models are conceptual designs presented in 3D form and in which only the points lying on the surface of the model have been defined.

(b) Importance of CAD solid modeling

In the modern manufacturing industry, CAD solid modeling has been of great importance when it comes to Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machining processes. Solid model created using CAD are used as the basis for developing CNC machine codes using Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) software. Advanced CAD software packages may have inbuilt CAM capabilities.

Solid modeling generates conceptual design models that can be assembled to create a prototype model. Such a model can be used to test and predict the behavior of the physical model prior to manufacturing. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is one of the most important model testing techniques used to perform stress analysis. In addition, CAD prototypes can be simulated to observe their behavior when subjected to different operating conditions including loading, pressure, etc.  All the components of prototype model are assigned to the correct material before the simulation process is initiated.

Solid model enables engineers to clearly demonstrate their designs to other people, some of whom may have limited technical knowledge to interpret 2D technical drawings. In fact, most CEOs and top managers in most organizations have no technical knowledge in interpretation of complex 2D technical drawings. Since such people may be very important when it comes to financing and management of an engineering firm, it would be very important if they understood the details and purpose of a new design.

NOTES:
In aircraft maintenance, there have been concerns that some accidents that have occurred in the past due to maintenance errors could have been avoided if the technicians clearly understood the content of aircraft maintenance manuals.

It has been argued that most of the technical drawings presented to technicians are complex and therefore subject to misinterpretation. While some experienced technicians may not find this as an issue, new technicians may face serious challenges.

It is worth noting that a maintenance team will always have new technicians and engineers who may make errors and omissions as a result of failure to quickly understand the content of maintenance manuals. It is believed that this challenge can be minimized if 3D solid models are used.

(c) Importance of CAD surface modeling

Surface modeling is particularly important in the automobile and aerospace industries, where surface characteristics play a very important role as far as product performance is concerned. Basically, surface models are used to perform aerodynamic analysis, which is an important process in the automobile and aerospace industries.

In the automobile industry, aerodynamic analysis is carried out during vehicle body design. It is worth noting that positive lift is undesirable in the automobile industry since it may lead to reduced vehicle stability and control. Vehicle bodies are therefore tested to ensure that positive lift, which has a high probability of occurring due to pressure difference between the bottom and upper surfaces of the roof does not occur. Though huge negative lift is also not very desirable, some racing cars have been designed to create negative lift to improve stability and control.

In the aerospace industry, surface models are used in aerodynamic analysis of the fuselage and the wing structure. The effects of aircraft components shape on aerodynamic drag and resultant lift constitute the main issues of investigation. The aerodynamic engineer uses the data obtained from aerodynamic analysis to optimize the design of aircraft components such as wings.

CAD modeling Ordering

In case you would want us to assist you with your surface modeling project, please go ahead and send an order request.

Our engineers experienced in surface modeling using different software packages will help you to meet your project goals.

3.   Finite Element Analysis, FEA

Finite element analysis, FEA is a very important technique used by engineers to perform stress analysis on CAD solid and surface models. Before performing FEA on a CAD model, all components should be assigned the correct materials. The correct engineering materials are determined by conducting a comprehensive material selection process. Once the materials have been assigned to the model, loading conditions are specified accordingly. During FEA, a CAD model is divided into multiple elements that together combine to form a mesh.

In stress analysis, the effects of stresses developed due to, applied forces, weight of components and pressure are analyzed for each element and the overall results provided. The results of such a process are typically presented in terms of displacement, stress distribution and Von-Mises stress distribution.

4.   Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is very important engineering tool that employs numerical methods to solve fluid flow problems. CFD is mainly concerned with the interactions between surface boundaries and fluids (both gases and liquids). The most common software used to carry out CFD is ANSYS. However, there are other tools that can be used to accomplish the same. At EBC, we use ANSYS and therefore you should consider this when placing your order.

CFD Assistance

If you have a CFD project that you are working on, we can assist you to meet your goals. Whether you are working on a workplace project or an academic project, we can assist you.
